Employee Code of Ethics Policy
Adapted from principles of professional conduct for educators:
1. Educators hold the belief that every individual possesses inherent worth and dignity. They actively pursue truth, strive for excellence, seek knowledge, and foster democratic citizenship. The realization of these values relies on the freedom to learn and teach, as well as ensuring equal opportunity for all.
2. The primary professional focus of educators will always be the student and their potential development. Consequently, educators will commit to ongoing professional growth and make informed, ethical judgments in their practices.
3. Understanding the necessity of earning the respect and trust of colleagues, students, parents, and the community, educators will work diligently to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct.
Training Requirement:
All staff, including educational support, instructional personnel, and administrators, are required to complete training on these ethical standards as a condition of employment. This training will take place during our in-service sessions at the beginning of each school year.
Reporting Misconduct by Instructional Staff and Administrators:
All employees have a responsibility to report any misconduct by instructional staff or school administrators that jeopardizes the health, safety, or welfare of students. This includes behaviors such as inappropriate language, substance abuse, discriminatory comments, sexual innuendos, academic dishonesty, physical aggression, and accepting or offering favors. Concerns about employee or administrator misconduct should be reported to the Head of School, Tangee Coleman, at 850.972.8202. Any credible allegations of misconduct involving certified educators will be reported to the appropriate oversight agency. Detailed procedures for reporting such conduct can be found in the Main Office and on our school’s website.
REPORTING CHILD ABUSE, ABANDONMENT, OR NEGLECT
SUSPECTED CHILD ABUSE
All staff members have a duty to report any actual or suspected cases of child abuse, abandonment, or neglect. Mandatory training on recognizing and reporting suspected child abuse will be conducted during Orientation Week. The Child Protective Services Hotline can be reached at 800-96-ABUSE or 800-962-2873, or reports can be made online at: www.dcf.state.fl.us/abuse/report/.
If a staff member suspects child abuse, our policy encourages them to discuss the situation with administration before contacting the Florida Department of Children and Families or any advocacy organization. While this is not mandated by law, it is a school policy.
In cases where the administration or the staff member believes that authorities should be alerted, the individual with direct knowledge of the situation should make the call to the Abuse Hotline. If both the administration and the staff member remain uncertain about the necessity of reporting, they are still required to document their conversation in writing.
